Australia to punish Nazi salute with minimum one year in jail

Australian lawmakers passed anti-hate legislation on Thursday, introducing minimum sentences for offenses like making a Nazi salute, which now carries a one-year jail term. The bill, supported by both the Labor government and conservative opposition, comes amid rising anti-Semitic attacks. It also includes harsher penalties for financing terrorism, advocating violence, and threatening or damaging property. Prime minister Anthony Albanese emphasized the importance of strong measures to combat anti-Semitic activities.
