New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has revived a decade-old tradition by taking a ceremonial plunge into a public pool, marking the start of the summer swimming season. Dressed in a full suit and tie, Mamdani’s dive into the Thomas Jefferson Pool in East Harlem also celebrated 90 years of public swimming in the city, a legacy initiated by Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia.
