A Danish couple, celebrated for their eco-retreat in Sweden, fled tax authorities and were traced to Guatemala, leaving behind environmental and financial wreckage. Their ‘eco-conscious’ resort, Stedsans, was abandoned with 158 barrels of human waste and evidence of wastewater discharged into the forest. Facing bankruptcy and significant debt, the couple claimed high taxes and bureaucracy made their mission impossible.
